What is the purpose of an air spring?

How long do air springs last?
It is not unrealistic for air springs to last 4 to 5 years depending on mileage. They will eventually dry-rot similar to tires since they consist mostly of rubber components.
How do you maintain air suspension?
Air springs are subject to wear and tear depending on road conditions. Debris from the roads can damage airbags with tears or hole punctures. Airbags should be inspected as regularly as 50,000 miles or before any long-haul to ensure no damage has been done. Air springs should be cleaned regularly to prevent a sandpaper effect on moving parts. These parts should be cleaned using soap and water, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, or isopropyl alcohol. Every year airbags should be fully inflated and checked for leaks.
